Be You
There's no question. Color is in and it is here to stay...at lest until the next big thing comes around since as we know, fashion comes and goes in a cycle. The bright trend we have been seeing for Spring 2012 seems to have come straight from the 80's. Neon colors were all the rage in the 80's and today's consumer can't get enough of them. From neon green, orange, and yellow, to bright pinks and blues, todays it's fashionable to pair them with jeans or even mix and match with other bright colors. Retailers such as Gap, Forever 21, and even designers like Jimmy Choo and Betsey Johnson. The silhouette of spring styles are also inspired by the 1980s. Baggy, loose fitting, and comfortable are what's popular. The main thing with the bright trend is to be yourself and make it your own. Personally, I'm loving this trend, especially the bright pant. I like to make it sophistacted and dress it up by adding simple toches in sillouette and with accessories. Here are some pieces from different designers and retailers embracing this trend:
Jimmy Choo
Betsey Johnson
Gap Pants
Forever 21 Jacket

Be Now
One of my personal favorite trends this spring is the white denim jacket. White is in. From white jeans, jackets, dress pants, and khakis, but the white denim jacket is definitely one of the most popular. It can be added to neutrals or brights, with pants or dresses. The possibilities are numerous! This week, I found Katelynn Adams, a fellow DMT student at WKU wearing this trend. It is more unique than your average denim jacket with the special stitching and buttons. She pairs it with the color pop shorts and neutral flats. I love this look and it can be great for class or even meeting friends for lunch. I also like that she kept the jewelry very simple and let the styling of the jacket be the statement piece.

Be Bold
One of the hottest color trends this spring is cobalt blue (or UK blue for any Kentucky fans out there). This unique shade of blue can be seen in stores all over Bowling Green and on Western's campus. Marlowe Frymire is a recent WKU grad and also a fellow employee at Gap. She looks great in this color, wearing a knit sweater with a v-neck and drop shoulder. Marlowe also paired it with subtle animal print pants, another trend this spring. Any piece in this color will add a bold, yet understated touch to your wardrobe!

Long Lasting Impression
One of the biggest trends this spring is the MAXI dress...
Here you can see some of the biggest names in Hollywood bringing this 70's inspired maxi look to life.
Mackenzie Noffsinger is a sophomore at WKU and is rocking this style while making it uniquely her own. Here she pairs it with two more hot trends this spring, STRIPES and a DENIM shirt. It is a very casual but chic look that is quickly becoming a classic and works perfectly for transitioning from winter into spring. Plus, this trendy look can go from class, to work, to getting coffee with a friend. You could even dress it up by adding a structured jacket and some jewelry. Every Western girl should plan on adding a cute maxi dress to her wardrobe this spring!

Be Bright
This week I found Mallory Trihn, a fellow Design, Merchandising, & Textiles student at WKU wearing one the latest trends! She is a great example of how students are wearing the current BRIGHT trend. She does the colorful straight leg khaki by GAP paired with a neutral top and bright pop of color with a scarf. Mallory is also wearing the neutral in a stripe, also very on trend right now. The bright bottom paired with a neutral is a popular look I have been seeing everywhere on campus and in the many stores around town. I also saw a similar pair of this bright pant on Kate Middleton which shows that this trend is definitely on target and global. I am personally loving this look and it's great for this amazing spring weather!

Introductions and thoughts
So...this is my first time blogging and I was slightly apprehensive about the thought of it at first. But the more I do with it, the more I think I will enjoy blogging. So here goes...
My intent with Wear It Forward is to keep you updated on current trends and how college students on Western's campus are wearing them and making them their own. I feel that with such a large, diverse group of people, not every single one of them will have the same outlook or take on the "right" way to wear the current trends. Everyone can put their own spin on the newest movements in fashion because we all have our own personally unique style. I am very excited about this idea and I hope you are too! Perhaps you and I both can be inspired to remix our wardrobes and think outside the box with our fashion choices!
